Update on Opening of the Masjid

Date: 12/06/2020

Respected members of the community,

السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكُمْ وَرَحْمَةُ الله ِوَبَرَكَاتُه

We pray that you are in the best of health and Imaan. Aameen.

The Imams and Trustees of Masjid-E-Umer would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your continued patience and support during these difficult and unprecedented times.

Masjid-e-Umer welcomes the government’s announcement to open places of worship from the 13th of June for individual prayer. However, this decision does not go far enough in recognising the religious practices of the Muslim community, which is to perform congregational prayers.

The transmission of Covid-19 remains a serious threat, especially to the vulnerable people in our community. Evidence shows that BAME (Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic) members are disproportionately affected by Covid-19. The Trustees of Masjid-e-Umer consider the safety and well-being of our congregation as paramount. After much deliberation and consultation with relevant organisations and our local Ulama, the Trustees have concluded that Masjid-e-Umer will remain closed.

This decision will be under constant review. We will continue to monitor government announcements and keep you updated on any further developments.

The Trustees are committed to keeping the Masjid safe for all. We are currently carrying out risk assessments and putting together a plan of action to ensure that appropriate safety procedures are in place when the Masjid reopens and for this, we will need your support. We will be reaching out for volunteers to help us manage a smooth transition to the new arrangements.

May Allah almighty reward you all for your patience. We humbly request your duas.

جزاك الله خيرا
